At the end of the second season of Boardwalk Empire, Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi) put a cap-or maybe it was two-in Jimmy Darmody's (Michael Pitt), a pretty, treacherous noggin, ending two seasons of Mentor / Protégé cat and mouse. Now, as season three opens, it's New Year's Eve, and Nucky is getting ready.

Never Insult Strange Italian Men in Atlantic City on the Border: And never, ever annoy Nucky Thompson. In an epic, Tarantino-style opening monologue, the dirty politician Reveal That, now, more than ever, he'll Suffer no one who might interrupt his operations, not even a thief who Steals to feed his family. Nucky's also none too pleased with his Political Allies and the negative attention they're getting from the press. Still, he manage to keep business going, even on New Year's Eve, announcing That he's cut an exclusive distribution deal with Arnold Rothstein (Michael Stuhlbarg). Which brings us back to Italian men: Upon hearing of Nucky's new business arrangement, GYP Rosetti (Bobby Cannavale), fresh from murdering a guy on his way to Atlantic City, makes it clear That he is not pleased.
Chicago's Not Quite the melting pot It Should Be: Al Capone's (Stephen Graham) booze business is starting to see some encroachment from the Irish, led by the cocky Dean O'Banion (Arron Shiver), who gets off on insulting Al's deaf son. Al Dean Tries to Reduce the Irish stew, until per-+ iodic government agent Nelson Van Alden (Michael Shannon) blunders into his flower shop and just happens to save the day. Van Alden has a new gig, and a new name, as a door-to-door salesman, but something tells us he will not have it for long, having impressed O'Banion like he has.

Kelly warns Irish of overconfidence after upsetting Michigan State US

Before Notre Dame left Michigan on Saturday night, it arrived at Michigan on Saturday night. The visitors' locker room at Spartan Stadium was lathered up and crackling, stoked by the stomping of a top-10 team, when Brian Kelly ungently jerked his team's attention forward.

Michigan State had been boiled Reduced to meal. So good job, Kelly said Effectively, and by the way, the Michigan Wolverines are coming, so feel free to stop straining backs for the same. Consider it one of the few times the head coach dous the players with the bucket of ice water.

"As soon as we got in the locker room, (Kelly) Brought us down to earth," tailback Cierra Wood said. "He said celebrate, but also know this is not anything. REACHED We have not our peak yet. We have not done anything."

As of Sunday, Notre Dame (3-0) has a sparkly No. 11 ranking, its best since late 2006th It has a bitter rival for visiting another night-game spectacle. And it has the memory of what happened under similar CIRCUMSTANCES last year, as it is possible facial bones never set properly after the Irish fell on them.

Notre Dame Treated a colossally hyped 2011 under-the-lights game against USC like Pixy Stix preschoolers freebasing. Kelly lamented a Lack of "competitive grace" after an error-riddled loss. So a season now Bursting with possibility only stays that way if Notre Dame Avoid mixing business with pleasure.

"Do not get infected with success," Kelly said Sunday. "It's easy to listen to how great you are. We've got to avoid the noise and Stay Disciplined on the process."

It's easy, especially During the best start in a decade, to forget how fragile THEY may be.

One unwelcome reminder arrived on Sunday, with confirmation That senior safety Jamor Slaughter is lost for the year with a torn Achilles tendon - Meaning Sophomore Matthias Farley steps in, meaning three-quarters of the starting secondary will now be in its first year of real action.

The offensive line and run game found redemption Sunday. The defensive front seven remained dominant. That's a terrific start, but it's easily undermined by inexperience elsewhere, and Overconfidence or runaway emotions can exacerbate That inexperience.
"They're 18 to 21 year olds," Kelly said. "You need to continue to remind them about Where are they, how THEY got here."

By Sunday Sundown, Kelly had imparted That message multiple times already - to everyone. He gave no specifics but gave the impression That management of last year's pre-USC commotion Provided teaching points for pre-Michigan madness.

"This is a group That has learned by Their Mistakes, as well," Kelly said. "Not just players, but coaches. We've learned we've got to stay focused and away from the distractions."

Distractions will find Notre Dame. That's life when an unbeaten record, Michigan week and a night game like giant asteroids collide, And that beats most alternatives.

Kelly joked indeed That a Lack of confidence and a Lack of interest is "not a good place to be." Notre Dame is in a good place right now. In a season of steps forward, the next one Involve The Irish forgetting a lot of what THEY think THEY know about themselves.

"We have to take this (Michigan State) game, bite down on our mouthpieces a little bit harder for next week," Wood said, "and come out swinging."

Extra points: Slaughter will have surgery on a torn Achilles tendon in the this week. After ... the deaths of his grandmother and girlfriend last week, linebacker Manti Te'o will return to Hawaii During the Irish's Upcoming week off. Kelly ... HOPES receiver Davari Daniels (ankle) is "full-go" against Michigan on Saturday after being limited.

Rosh Hashanah: Tips for keeping New Year’s resolutions

Is that really a smart thing to do? To make a promise to God under these sacred days on That there is a pretty good chance we will not be Able to keep .... After all, do not we all go back to our same old mistakes once we leave the spiritual glow of the High Holidays?

But it does not have to be that way. We can improve our chances of success in our New Year's Resolutions this year.

Here are three steps to making a Successful resolution:

The first step is to make a resolution That we can succeed in. When we make a resolution, we will have Greater chance for success if it is a limited and concrete resolution.

The Talmud tells us That the prophet Samuel was a Nazir for his whole life. A Nazir is someone who takes an oath to Prohibit themselve from coming into contact with a dead body, drinking wine or a grape product, and from taking a haircut.

A Nazir is the paradigm in Jewish life of someone who commits oneself entirely to God. It is the closest thing that Judaism has to a monk. But it is notable spots, when put in context That, that a Nazir is really a very limited commitment. All a Nazir does limit is three things: contact with the dead, wine, and a haircut. In the scheme of things, this is a limited and realistic commitment. It is not open-ended and infinite. That is the lesson we should make a resolution That is meaningful and impactful, yet limited in scope.

Here are examples of this type of resolution: We might say we are going to take an hour a day That we are not going to gossip, or we are going to Increase our Torah study by one hour a week, or are we going to call our parents every single day and tell them we love them.

Step two: When making a resolution and volgende through my own resolution, do not expect immediate gratification.

Let's take physical exercise as an example. Someone might make a resolution to exercise every day for a half hour. The first week of exercise the person might love it, and it will feel great, but then after a while, it will get boring and we might quit exercising. That's why how we feel when performing the resolution is Irrelevant, and we should not focus on it. Instead we should focus on why we are exercising and not how we feel when we exercise. Thusis, for example, we should exercise Because it makes us healthier people and not Because we feel good when exercising.

To translate this into a Purely spiritual example, lets say we take it upon ourselves to go to Friday night services every week. The first week we might love the service. We might love that the tunes are upbeat. But then, after a while, we might get bored and say, "Oh the service is not as enjoyable as it once was." And then, once our pleasure Decrease, we might stop going. That would be a mistake. Instead we should say, "I am going to go to Friday night services Because That is what I believe God wants me to do. If it feels good, great, if not, then I will work on myself to try and get a better result from the spiritual service. "

The key is to never let our personal feelings of pleasure interfere with our commitment to our resolution.

So step two to a Successful resolution is to not confuse how we feel with what is our ultimate goal as Such a mistake will lessen our commitment and our dedication.

The third step in making a Successful resolution is to never doubt one's own Ability to be successful.

Many of us fail in our goals Because we think we just can not do it. We think it is beyond us. Too hard. We give up.

Rosh Hashanah is a reminder That we are great, and we have the Ability to succeed. Do we want to diet or quit smoking? It is no problem. God created us, so we can do it. Do we want to control our temper or our tendency to gossip? God created us with the Ability to do it.

So under these are three steps to help make our success a Resolutions: 1) make a Specific and limited resolution, 2) do not confuse our momentary enjoyment with the goal of the resolution, and 3) do not ever doubt our Ability to follow through and successfully complete the resolution.

Here is a bonus hint: Resolutions are more Likely to succeed when are they Publicly shared and when there is support from friends.

Neal Justin TV comeback trail

It's that time of year when friends are less concerned than usual about my health and family. The only question on your mind: What new fall shows? A short but sharp answer: not very good. This rookie class one of the weakest in recent years, with the cable when it is the best book of the summer and all the networks, but refuse to take bold options.

But all is not lost, because it shows that you should be salivating about what's going to happen next return series. Here are the 10 I especially want to know again.

"Boardwalk Empire: Nucky (Steve Buscemi), and the company does not make other TV dramas coolly respect. Maybe Bobby Cannavale the ruthless mob man will get the audience to invest in more shares. Season premiere: 20:00 on Sunday, HBO

"Treme": This drama set in New Orleans is not a ruthless story lines creator David Simon's masterpiece "The Wire," but it's really not a goal. As the city, this series is mainly about music and mood, so beautifully captured the upcoming third season. 21:00 September 23, HBO

"How I Met Your Mother ': With the exception of" Community "is not a comedy network opportunities - and thrived to tell about it. Shaky contract negotiations and steady film career Jason Segel, indicates that it may be the last eighth season. Fit! September 24 at 07:00 WCCO, Ch. 4

"Modern Family" Gloria (Sofia Vergara) is pregnant, the story line, which promises to deliver a new phase of smart, sassy humor. Another proof that this show is a minor miracle: At least a half-dozen new comedy copycats, but none comes close to this "Modern Miracle. 08:00 September 26, KSTP, Ch. 5

'Revenge': I'm not a big fan of cheese, prime-time soap, but even I could not help but get sucked into it seriously silly romp. The good news: Jennifer Jason Leigh joins the circus this season. Bad news: It can be transferred to an increasingly competitive Sunday night slot murder rating. September 30, 8:00 KSTP, Ch. 5

'Dexter': Our favorite serial killer mystery, at least in his cynical sister, setting up another impossible situations to keep the six-year-old fresh thriller. Ray Stevenson, best known for "Rome" is the latest actor trying to replace John Lithgow as the creepiest villain ever. 08:00 September 30, Showtime

'Homeland': Where Carrie (Emmy leader Claire Danes) to go after electroshock therapy? Where else but in another case, that seems to be destined to blow your mind? Nicholas (Damian Lewis), had to be killed last season, but the producers wisely kept it alive, providing more convincing stage cat-and-mouse game. 21:00 September 30, Showtime

"30 Rock: Most would agree that this Emmy-winning comedy is past its peak, but the live episode last season was one of his best. With only 13 episodes to go before he throws, Tina Fey and the company could go broke. 07:00 October 4, KARE, Ch. 11

"American Horror Story: Asylum: Co-creator Ryan Murphy has given us some of the scariest TV from the last season of" Roseanne. " He can do it again? He has a tendency to lose interest after the first season (see "Glee" and "Nip / Tuck"). But Jessica Lange back in time to how sadistic nuns. Now, who wants to see that? 21:00 October 17, FX

'Community': NBC's faith in this bold and often gut busting comedy is so low that it fired sitcom uber-creative show runner Dan Harmon and passed it on Friday graveyard shift. Can cast and writers continue to churn out creative laughing at the previous level? This could be the season the most provocative question. 07:30 October 19, KARE, Ch. 11
