Neal Justin TV comeback trail

It's that time of year when friends are less concerned than usual about my health and family. The only question on your mind: What new fall shows? A short but sharp answer: not very good. This rookie class one of the weakest in recent years, with the cable when it is the best book of the summer and all the networks, but refuse to take bold options.

But all is not lost, because it shows that you should be salivating about what's going to happen next return series. Here are the 10 I especially want to know again.

"Boardwalk Empire: Nucky (Steve Buscemi), and the company does not make other TV dramas coolly respect. Maybe Bobby Cannavale the ruthless mob man will get the audience to invest in more shares. Season premiere: 20:00 on Sunday, HBO

"Treme": This drama set in New Orleans is not a ruthless story lines creator David Simon's masterpiece "The Wire," but it's really not a goal. As the city, this series is mainly about music and mood, so beautifully captured the upcoming third season. 21:00 September 23, HBO

"How I Met Your Mother ': With the exception of" Community "is not a comedy network opportunities - and thrived to tell about it. Shaky contract negotiations and steady film career Jason Segel, indicates that it may be the last eighth season. Fit! September 24 at 07:00 WCCO, Ch. 4

"Modern Family" Gloria (Sofia Vergara) is pregnant, the story line, which promises to deliver a new phase of smart, sassy humor. Another proof that this show is a minor miracle: At least a half-dozen new comedy copycats, but none comes close to this "Modern Miracle. 08:00 September 26, KSTP, Ch. 5

'Revenge': I'm not a big fan of cheese, prime-time soap, but even I could not help but get sucked into it seriously silly romp. The good news: Jennifer Jason Leigh joins the circus this season. Bad news: It can be transferred to an increasingly competitive Sunday night slot murder rating. September 30, 8:00 KSTP, Ch. 5

'Dexter': Our favorite serial killer mystery, at least in his cynical sister, setting up another impossible situations to keep the six-year-old fresh thriller. Ray Stevenson, best known for "Rome" is the latest actor trying to replace John Lithgow as the creepiest villain ever. 08:00 September 30, Showtime

'Homeland': Where Carrie (Emmy leader Claire Danes) to go after electroshock therapy? Where else but in another case, that seems to be destined to blow your mind? Nicholas (Damian Lewis), had to be killed last season, but the producers wisely kept it alive, providing more convincing stage cat-and-mouse game. 21:00 September 30, Showtime

"30 Rock: Most would agree that this Emmy-winning comedy is past its peak, but the live episode last season was one of his best. With only 13 episodes to go before he throws, Tina Fey and the company could go broke. 07:00 October 4, KARE, Ch. 11

"American Horror Story: Asylum: Co-creator Ryan Murphy has given us some of the scariest TV from the last season of" Roseanne. " He can do it again? He has a tendency to lose interest after the first season (see "Glee" and "Nip / Tuck"). But Jessica Lange back in time to how sadistic nuns. Now, who wants to see that? 21:00 October 17, FX

'Community': NBC's faith in this bold and often gut busting comedy is so low that it fired sitcom uber-creative show runner Dan Harmon and passed it on Friday graveyard shift. Can cast and writers continue to churn out creative laughing at the previous level? This could be the season the most provocative question. 07:30 October 19, KARE, Ch. 11
